A new conference with new teams is no problem for the Girls Varsity volleyball team as they grab a victory at home against Forest Hills Eastern. The team breezed easily through their first conference game on Sept. 15, winning three sets straight. The first two sets were big wins for EGR with the score for both being 25-9.

¨We played really well tonight, we played scrappy defense and controlled our side of the net,¨ Caroline Pursley ´18 said.

Alternatively, the third set proved to be more of a challenge for the team, who came back from trailing 13-15 to win 25-17.

¨The first two sets we won by so much, that the last set we weren’t really expecting them to come back that much. But I was proud of us when we came back especially when we were down a few points,¨ Sara Vargo ´18 said.

The game was a good way for the team to start their season, and learn where they can strengthen their game in order to be a powerhouse compared to their new competition.

¨From this game we probably need to work on our serving and blocking,¨ Pursley said.

The team that was young last year, showed their growth this game with key plays coming from their 9 returning varsity players. Eastern may have not been the biggest competition, but the team stepped up and showed their ability to not play down to a lower level.

¨This conference the teams we are playing won’t be as good as the teams we have played in the previous years, but we are just going to keep working on us and try and get better,¨ Pursley said.
