With the addition of a new varsity coach, the EGR Crew team is off to a strong start this fall. Although crew is often known as a spring sport, the team still trains and competes in fall regattas. “The races we do in the fall are much longer than in the spring. It’s like a training season where we can set our aerobic bar” Varsity rower Macy Albaitis said.

“We had our first regatta of the season two weekends ago in Toledo, Ohio. The conditions weren’t the best, but my boat managed to get 5th out of 20 competitors. We were happy with our results” Albaitis said.

This year, the team has welcomed several new underclassman, making the future look bright for the team. “We have a lot of really strong underclassmen and novice. I spent time coxing the novices a little bit last summer and they all have a very impressive work ethic. It looks like every boat has a good chance at making it to the scholastic national regatta” Albaitis said.

The team’s next regatta is at Michigan State University this Saturday. “I don’t exactly know what to expect in terms of race results yet, but I’m optimistic. We all have a lot of power so hopefully that will translate well out on the water.”
