People who have given up their lives working to create change in society deserve to be honored and their ideals recognized. The East Grand Rapids orchestra has found a great way of remembering the actions of Wall Street reporter David Pearl by dedicating a night of music to him. Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and killed while working in Karachi, Pakistan and in order to try to create a more peaceful world, his family decided to create the Daniel Pearl Foundation.

This year is the 10th annual Harmony for Humanity Concert which is inspired by the Daniel Pearl Foundation that works to use music to bring people together across the globe. The concert will take place Oct. 26 and will include performances from both the Freshman and Varsity orchestras.

¨We are doing music from the past ten years, and are singing a song at the end that they sang at the first concert¨ Charlie Pietryga ´18 said.

Even though Daniel Pearl was a reporter he was also a very talented musician, and thought music was a great way to bring people together. Now the East Grand Rapids community is being brought together by music from the orchestra in order to pay tribute to Pearl´s life.

¨I am excited for the concert. We have been doing it for a long time, so it is pretty familiar,” Pietryga said
