Expectations High For Girls Water Polo Team

The East Grand Rapids Girls Varsity water polo team looks to make their presence known this spring as the season progresses. For the first time in four years, the girls are ranked and have a good shot at finding success during the postseason.

Captains Julia McMinn, Kate Campbell, and Reagan Shapton have been leading the Pioneers to a win-filled season so far this year. Through ten games, the squad holds eight wins and only two losses. They are aiming high as they work towards playoffs.

“Our goal for the season is to make it to state. It is the first time in my four years that states is a real possibility for our team,” said Elizabeth Witting ‘17 regarding the season. “This year it is all about being a team and playing together.”

The Pioneers are willing to take on the challenge of high expectations. “Being ranked puts a lot of pressure on the team since our coach is very intense and really wants us to succeed, but none of us want to disappoint her,” said Julia McMinn ‘17.

Witting ‘17 added, “It’s a lot of pressure to be ranked for the first time in four years but then again it reflects how hard we’ve worked and how far we’ve come.”

The ladies next take the pool on Thursday, Apr. 20, away against West Ottawa.
