Excitement and anticipation fills the deck when the East Grand Rapids boys polo team storms the pool. Caps are on, speedos are tied, and weight belts have been worn. The boys are crowding the pool deck, eager to leap in and muscle through yet another game, like the majestic water buffalo they are. The grueling practices in the pool, on the track, and during Barwis are finally about to pay off.

Zach Sprague ‘19, is more than enthusiastic about the team’s prospects for the year.

“We are looking forward to outworking our opponents and bringing the program to the next level,” Sprague said. The combination of intense training and a close knit team has astonishing results. “We are finally beating teams that we have come so close to in the past two years,” he remarked.

The team attributes recent and potential future successes to the immense elevation of rigor in practices. Daniel Coles ‘19 explains, “This year we have been working harder than ever and have been practicing three hours a day. So far it looks like we have the best team we have had in the last four years and that’s super exciting.”

The season has only just begun but their record has been strong.

Ben Sorota ‘20, explains that “We have only had two tournaments so far but we have been improving and looking forward to hopefully beating teams in dual games that we haven’t beaten before.”

The overall tone for the boys polo team this year is optimistic. The boys are excited for their future games and share a fierce drive to do better than they’ve ever done before.
