My first week

Hey East, it’s Nora! I’m sorry it’s taken me a bit of time to post on this blog, I’ve been really busy for the past few days.
To recap my day. we woke up at 6:15 and did our first run-swim, which is basically running for small stretches, swimming across peninsulas, doing calisthenics, and then doing it over again multiple times (and at the end jumping off a cliff). While the workout was difficult, it was a rewarding feeling touching the flagpole after we finished.
Overall, I am doing well. There are times when I am still feeling homesick, but everyone has been really supportive and has been cheering each other up when we’re feeling sad and missing home.
Classes have been really interesting so far. Today, I had my first Seminar and Marine Ecology class, both of which I found really interesting. I am excited to learn in a new hands-on way and learn as much as possible.
Ever since we arrived at the Island School, we have been talking repeatedly about the three pillars of the Island School, which are sustainability, intentional community, and sense of place. I am excited to learn more about these pillars (as they are incorporated into all of my classes) and to try to practice them in my daily life – both at the Island School and when I get back to Michigan.
Due to dinner starting soon, I’ll have to sign off for now – but I can’t wait to fill you in more on my journey! You’ll be hearing from me about 1-2 times a week. Love you guys.
Nora
