Girls Cross Country faces the heat again today at Gainey

Girls Cross Country has always been known for the motto “Run As One.”

But another favorite saying from Coach Nick Hopkins is also one that keeps his runners focused on the next opponent to pass for a point: Every jersey color counts.

Coming off of their second place finish at MSU this past weekend the girls are ready to take on that challenge at Gainey today, as they face their biggest rivals, Grand Rapids Christian, and other local teams.

The top finishing runner at MSU was Margaret Coney ‘20, along with a very good run by Kate O’Connell ‘18, Hannah Bodine ‘21, Claire Cannon ‘21, Katie Hessler ‘20, and Audrey Whiteside ‘19.

Getting prepared for more races ahead after MSU, Coney is looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I’m just going to focus on what’s ahead of me, whenever I get negative thoughts, I just have to keep that one thought in my mind that I’m going to keep doing it,” Coney said.

With a big meet against numerous teams, including their rival Grand Rapids Christian, Coney, along with the rest of the team, is going to keep staying positive so that they can have continued success.
