Everyone wanted to know and see more of the Black Panther after he was introduced in Captain America: Civil War. After nearly two years of no additional appearances of the Black Panther in the Marvel universe, fans war psyched to finally see more of T’Challa, Wakanda, and everything else that the character brings to the table.

After seeing the movie during its opening weekend, I’m happy to say that I absolutely loved it. From start to finish, the movie was incredibly intriguing, with fantastic action scenes and nuances added to the mythology of the character along the way. This is one of my favorite superhero movies in recent memory.

The central reason behind that is Michael B Jordan, who plays the movie’s villain, Killmonger. A common flaw in Marvel movies are the antagonists. Far too often, the villain of the movie is a cookie-cutter, over the top, “bad guy” with little realistic motivation. Marvel films are nearly always entertaining in spite of this but, they are still held back as rarely does it feel like there is a legitimate conflict or threat. This movie is different; Killmonger is one of the most compelling antagonists that the Marvel universe has offered so far. With an interesting backstory and motivation that makes sense, Killmonger makes the film much more interesting and often has the audience second guessing T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) morals.

You should go see Black Panther: not only is it a great movie within the Marvel universe, but it stands alone as a great movie in and of itself.
