The teenage guide to cheap healthy food
March 2, 2018
The teenage wallet generally consists of a debit card with next to no money and old wadded gum wrappers. But, somehow we manage to tend to our Qdoba cravings and scrape enough money for a Costco slice of pizza.
The places that teenagers can afford don’t always have the healthiest of options and usually charge much too high for the amount of food that they give you. It is often difficult to find food options for the best value, and students usual chose to pick their meals on how cheap they are instead of their nutritious value. An alternative to the lack of nutrition and money, we must turn our attention to places like Freshii, Sip, and Bliss and Vinegar. All of these places offer a wide range of healthy options and are definitely worth what you’re paying.
For instance, Freshii sells salads, smoothies, frozen yogurt, and burrito bowls. Their company believes that they can change the way the world eats by their diverse menu. At Freshii you can truly get breakfast, lunch, or dinner that all all filled with fresh ingredients. It is a perfect spot for students to try new and healthy food options.
“The food was very refreshing and if I needed a healthy option for that day I would choose it over Doba due to the extra nutrition,” Kate Mackiegan’19 said.
Another healthy option to explore is Sip, an organic juice bar that uses high quality and local ingredients. This health hot spot serves smoothie/acai bowls and organic juices. These delicious smoothies are filled with healthy ingredients and are very filling. There is even a section of juices that target immunity boosting, all the juices are rich in vitamins and give your body a great boost. They also offer detox plans that will clean your bodies of toxins, and leave you feeling clean and refreshed!
After purchasing your juice walk next door to Bliss and Vinegar for your final health stop! Bliss and Vinegar provide fresh, fast, and delicious salads to their customers. With multiple salad options students never get bored with this healthy option. ‘Bliss’ describes the way the food leaves you feeling afterward and ‘Vinegar’ describes that extra zing of flavor that their salads have. Behind their creative name is a restaurant that truly loves feeding the community in a fast and nutritious way.
All of these local food spots are great ways to step out of the teenage fast food comfort zone and try something good and healthy without breaking the bank. I encourage everyone to try these places for not only the flavor but also for the nutritious options they provide.
