Barnes’ Best: music coming in 2018

Michael Barnes, Staff Writer

  1. Frank Ocean – While Frank releasing a new album in 2018 is purely speculation, I’m optimistic that the 5 singles he’s released in the last year are indicative of a larger project coming very soon.
  2. Chance the Rapper – It’s been two years since we’ve heard from Chance, who says he’s hard at work on his first album after his trilogy of mixtapes.
  3. Kanye West – Kanye is heavily rumored to come out with a new album this year and it will be very interesting to see if and how his recent outbursts in the media will affect his music.
  4. ASAP Rocky – Rocky confirmed that his next album will be coming very soon. Expect it some time before the summer.
  5. Rihanna – With all of her features in 2017, namely “Loyalty” by Kendrick Lamar, “Wild Thoughts” by DJ Khaled and “Lemon” by NERD, Rihanna stayed on top without releasing anything and her next independent work should be a good one.
  6. Bon Iver – We probably won’t get an album from Bon Iver this year, but I am still looking forward to what he has in store with other artists, whether it be Kanye West, Jay-Z, or a plethora of other artist, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) always makes his presence felt even if its not on his own album.
  7. Cardi B – Cardi B went from unheard of to being one of the biggest stars in all of hip hop within months and her time on top seems to be just getting started.
  8. Vampire Weekend – Mitsubishi Macchiato – Its been 5 years since Vampire Weekend’s last album and it will be interesting to see what their hiatus does to their sound.
  9. Beyonce – If the trend of a Beyonce album every two or so years continues then we should be expecting something from her this year.
  10. Brockhampton – Team Effort – There is no harder working band in music than Brockhampton. With its 14 members, they were able to release three fantastic albums in 2017 and they confirmed their next album, Team Effort will be coming sometime this spring.
