Girls Tennis Looking for Back-to-Back State Titles

Coming off of a state title last year, the girls tennis team here at EGR has big shoes to fill. The team is lead by an experienced group of captains Sloane Teske ‘19, Audrey Devries ‘18, Hannah Stuursma ‘18, and Caroline Pursley ‘18.  With a majority of the team returning as well, the team is looking to have repeat titles.

“I’m really happy with how the season has been going so far. We’ve had a couple tough matches these past two weeks and I’m really pleased with how they’ve turned out” Halley Elliott ‘20 said.

However, there is still plenty of time left in the season and with that in mind the team can’t get lazy.

“I am looking forward to spending time with my team and working hard to win another state title. Most of the other teams are out to get us so it’s important that we focus in practice to achieve our goal.” Lucy Pietryga ‘20 said.

This past weekend the team competed in one of their biggest tournament of the year. There were four teams competing for a higher seeding once the postseason starts. EGR tied for first with Forest Hills Northern, the runner-up at last years state meet.

“I’m super proud of how our team did in this tournament because of how tough the teams were. I’m really excited for the upcoming matches we have including our EGR invite” Elliot said.

Now that the team has momentum backing them up, they are the team to beat in the OK Gold conference, which only makes the season harder for them. However that didn’t stop them last year and hopefully it won’t stop them this year.
