Lacrosse goalie Lily Kate Rogers fulfills high expectations for young team
April 27, 2018
Lily Kate Rogers ‘19 is filling in some big shoes of four-year varsity goalie Rebecca Scobell, and she is not skipping a beat.
Rogers has been playing lacrosse for six years, and has been playing goalie for five years.”Our season is going really well this year,” Rogers said, “we don’t have as many players on the team which means that everyone has playing time and we are all accountable for each other on the field.”
The EGR Girls Lacrosse team has been exceeding expectations with a 5-1 record. “Varsity is definitely different because of the competition,” Rogers said. With varsity girls clearly more experienced than JV, it makes for a whole new game, especially for the goalie, “on jv I would maybe get one or two shots a game if I was lucky and on varsity there was a lot more action on the defensive end of the field which is great,” Rogers said.
Although the team has lost several players this year and is an extremely young team, it makes for a closer knit team for better chemistry on the field. “We all realized that at the beginning of the year that we need to be friends before we’re teammates,” Rogers said. The good vibes on the team are what assists them in winning each game together.
“I can honestly say that I would consider everyone on the team my best friends,” Rogers said. “We have the goal of having an infectious intensity at practice and in games, which will help us make it to the state championship and ultimately become the state champs.”
Rogers has done an exceptional job this season as goalie and will be continuing on with this role into her senior year season. “I realized last year that I don’t want to play in college. There’s way more things that I think I would be interested in. I might consider playing club though,” Rogers said.
The EGR Girls Lacrosse Team hopes to end the season as state champs for the 6th time ever.
