It’s Weeple’s time to shine at states
East Grand Rapids We The People (Weeple) will be heading to states this Friday, Jan. 6th at the Michigan State Law School. Coached and mentored by Adam Horos, one of the social studies teachers, the team is set for success.
“We started the class in August and then started after-school practices in October and November, so a month of that was preparing for districts, and another month was preparing for states,” Horos said.
In December, the Weeple team did a great job at districts, giving them a better chance to win states.
“We won districts, and 4 of the units won first place,” Horos said.
Since they have done so well at their recent competitions, the team is hopeful that they will be able to continue this pattern at states.
“Our goal is to get first place,” Horos said, “and our team is very talented, so I have high hopes.”
Luckily, depending on their performance at states, the team could potentially qualify for nationals.
“If we want to and we do well at states, we have a great chance of going to nationals,” Horos said. “From here on out, the class is voluntary, so it is the team’s choice if they want to go to nationals.”
Alyssa Hein ‘24, has hopes for the team to go to nationals and success at states.
“I hope we win and make it to nationals which is in Washington D.C.,” Hein ‘24
Seeing how great Weeple has done already this season, they are bound to get the dub at states.
