The girl’s field hockey team led by captains Greta Lampen ‘24, Avery Larsen ‘24, and Julia Sekulich ‘24, is just three weeks into the season and hopes are high.
The season for both varsity and JV began at the end of August but the team had already been practicing during the summer doing both conditioning and lifting.
As usual, the teams are relatively small compared to other Fall sports.
“This year we only have 14 people on varsity and 10 on JV,” Larsen said.
However, unlike typical past years, the grades of players vary.
“Something pretty unique about this year is that we have two freshmen on varsity, Avery Albers and Peyton Astrauskas. This doesn’t normally happen,” Lampen said.
So far, the varsity team’s record is 1-4 and JV’s record is 0-3-1. Although the current standings for both teams aren’t ideal, they are motivation for how the rest of the season will be played.
“We want to work together on the field, and make better plays,” Larsen said.
Looking ahead into the season the team has their eye on states.
“We are really focusing on becoming state champions,” Lampen said.
The team also has some tough competition in their upcoming games.
“Our biggest competition right now is probably Dexter,” Larsen said.
The next game for both varsity and JV is Sep. 6, home against Bloomfield Hills, 5:30 pm varsity and 7:00 pm JV.
