With the hope of getting more students up and active, Jake Babb is proposing the idea to the school to start an AM lifting club for East Grand Rapids High School students. This club will be available for all students, including out of season athletes as well as non athletes, with the hope of getting many students more active. Starting at 6:30 and ending at 7:30, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Babb hopes to provide a structured and beneficial workout to those interested. This will take place right here at the East Grand Rapids high school gym, so the students will be able to make it to class on time.
The overall goal for the AM Pump Club is to expand the opportunities for students to lift, help students become more physically active, as well as create and build excitement and interest regarding the weight room. Babb wants students to become stronger, faster, and bigger. This goes for everyone, not just athletes. Babb intends for students to increase the amount of weight they are able to lift for three exercises. Bench press, power clean, and back squat are the movements that will be focused on the most, while teaching the students about proper form and technique. With each workout being focused mainly on those movements, students are ensured to make a lot of progress. Whether students are athletes or not, there is no denying that this club will be beneficial.
Students will be encouraged to come, but never required. Inconsistent attendance may lead to poor results and performances, but no student is required to be present. If a student is injured, they are still required to come, Babb is willing and open to crafting a workout plan designed for their needs. The attendance will be recorded on a google form, for the purpose of being aware of the volume of students that will take advantage of the before school opportunity.
With the intention of getting more students in the weight room, Babb hopes that the early morning timing of these lifts, more students will be able to fit this into their schedule. No club has ever been proposed quite like this one,so there are high hopes and expectations for this to be a great addition to East Grand Rapids.
