After an uncharacteristic 10 to 11 loss in the regional finals last year to Lowell, the EGR men’s lacrosse team is ready to kick off the 2024 season strong. The Pioneers are gearing up to open their season facing East Lansing, on Mar. 20 on their home turf.
Junior Gavin Buck is excited to be back in action as the Pioneers have been working hard in their off-season conditioning, training, and getting everyone back in the grove to hopefully secure their 13th state championship.
They are looking forward to strengthening their offense this year with the addition of a new offensive coordinator, Josh Teller who previously played at Division 1 Providence University.
“He’s a funny guy with a lot of character and he knows what he’s talking about,” Buck said.
Although playoffs were cut short for the Pioneers last season they are ready to be back facing strong teams this year like Forest Hills Central and Detroit Country Day.
“The teams we want to beat this year are Detroit Country Day and Forest Hills Central because they have a lot of big D1 players,” Buck said.
You can catch the boys kicking off their season early this year with four big games before spring break, two of those being Hamilton Southeastern and Carmel High School. Both teams are visiting from Indiana.
“It should be a good season with lots of high-intensity games,” Alex Collins ‘24 said
