A man who is known by many names is a man who is known to live different lives. His friends often call him Carnes or Cbooty and might tell you he is a “James Bond” esque figure, a man of mystery per say.
Students at East may think they know Carter Barnes but do they really know the ins, outs, and his real passions. Carter could be seen as somewhat of a public figure with Drumline, Tennis, Kids Food Basket, piano, and academic hero.
“Most people know that I am an avid tennis player. Some of my achievements are three year varsity player, 1 doubles all state, all conference and captain of the team,” Carter Barnes ‘24 said.
Carter has a passion for tennis alongside participating in the drum line throughout the fall. He was on the field every home game drumming his heart out and giving his all for EGR.
If mastering how to play the drums isn’t enough, Carter also has a way with the keys. As he enters the front door of his estate on Wilshire, many do not know what goes on: he enters his habitat.
The walls in the house are used to the constant playing of the piano which he is magnificent at.
“ I have been sharpening my skills on the keys for 10 years, getting lessons once a week. I can now play almost anything and am working on my ability to tell a story through music,” Barnes ‘24 said.
His friends have had multiple encounters where the clock is nearing midnight and he lays his fingers on the keys and starts to play a beautiful Beethoven symphony.
Another very public spot light for Carter is his charitable work with Kids Food Basket.
“ I am very passionate about donating my time helping others, I can see the difference first hand and it makes me feel so good,” Barnes ‘24 said. These are parts of Carter that make him known as a kind, hardworking, and determined kid; or as his friends might say the most eligible EGR bachelor candidate.
Alongside his frequent tennis training, drumline practices, and piano lessons, Carter takes up his free time with unique hobbies. As a guest into the house of Carter Barnes you will see many fascinating things. If you make your way up the stairs and pop your head into the bathroom, you would see 26 different fragrances ranging from Aqua de Gio to Versace.
If you continue on past the bathroom enter into the room and you will see a faint blue light coming from a dark closet. Most would assume he is growing some sort of illegal substance but Carter will tell you.
“I am growing the most expensive pepper in the world. This is my 3rd year attempting to grow the Aji Charapita and it requires all of my attention. I am very passionate about my peppers and this will be the year I succeed,” Barnes ‘24 said.
To say that Carter Barnes is the average high school student would be far from true. He is much much more, whether he is balling on the tennis court, helping to create a more equitable society at Kids’ Food Basket or attempting to grow the Aji Charapita he truly is a man of mystery.
