Arguably one of the most involved EGR senior students, Eoghan Burns has taken on many important and time consuming roles during his high school years. Being on the executive board, cross country and track team, as well as being in charge of many important social media accounts, to say Eoghan is a busy student would be an understatement. On top of all these responsibilities, he still balances his time wisely, and to focus on his academics as well.
Student council is one of the many extracurriculars he is involved in, but it tends to be the most time consuming. Beginning his student council involvement all the way back in elementary school, Eoghan has continued all the way through middle and high school.
Although being on the executive board doesn’t require any big decision making, it requires a great amount of attention to detail, which is his specialty.
“Being on the executive board comes with a lot of responsibilities and is a very detailed oriented position. I tend to focus on the smaller things such as ticket designs for dances, homecoming float posters, organizing and communicating the information that comes from meetings, which helps things run a lot smoother,” Eoghan Burns ‘24 said.
Beyond his position on student council Eoghan also is a part of the boys cross country and track team. Being a part of these teams for three out of the four years of high school, he has put countless hours into his athletics and has impacted both teams by creating a positive environment for other athletes.
“Running for East cross country and track has been a great experience and a lot has come with it. I’ve learned a lot about time management and I have become very good with balancing my responsibilities. Overall being a part of such a motivated team has been a very rewarding experience,” Burns said.
One of the things that is most notable about Eoghan is his involvement with the social media platforms regarding the school. Having access and involvement with these platforms he is able to bring the student body together using his creativity through Instagram.
Eoghan is in charge of an account called “Egrsportsandstuff” where he is the main communicator to the student body. Putting his own twists to each post, making the information regarding sports events, themes, dances, and more helps spread information and engage all of the student body.
Another account that he is in charge of is “egrdesionday” where the senior students send in their future college plans, and have it posted for people to see. It’s an inclusive and uplifting way to spread information that without the account might not be accessible.
“Being in charge of these accounts I am able to bring the student body together, help inform them, and keep the atmosphere exciting. I enjoy being able to add my own twist to the graphics and dedicating my time to making it how the student body would like.” Burns said.
With all the dedication and time put into his extracurricular activities, Eoghan has made his mark on the student body making the atmosphere a more enjoyable place.
