Spring break service trips

Nicole Alfred ‘16 and Maddie McClure ‘16 have sacrificed laying by the pool and tanning on the beach for the past two spring breaks to go help at Give Kids The World in Florida.

Although going on a mission trip over spring break isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it is a great way to get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, broaden your horizons, and assist people in need of help.

“I don’t regret going on mission trips during my spring breaks because they have been some of the most fun and most impactful memories that I have. Not to sound cliché, it’s true,” McClure said.

Even though they have missed vacations by going on mission trips, in the end the end the experience is well worth it. Helping peo- ple in need of care, making friendships that can last a lifetime, and going somewhere that you haven’t before makes it all worth wild.

“I never had been out of the country and I wanted to go somewhere I have never been. So that’s why I decided to go to Trinidad. Af- ter that I had so much fun that I wanted to go on more,” Alfred said.

Alfred and McClure have been going on mission trips with their church since fresh- man year. “I know a lot of people that don’t want to go on them because of the religious aspect, but it’s really not all about that. There are some that are very serious about teach- ing religion, but I would say that most of them that I went on are more just volunteer based,” Alfred said.

Going on a mission trip during spring break can lead to miss- ing out on vacations with friends and family, but the experience of helping others and bonding with people makes it all worth the sacrifice.
