Grace is trying: to say goodbye and start fresh

Grace Ruppert, Focus Editor

I didn’t plan on being a columnist this year and I figured I wouldn’t be one since I didn’t have anything really to say, but agreed to try when I was asked. I was worried my column wouldn’t be interesting to everyone, so I tried to try things that would inspire others to step out of their comfort zone or at least be interesting to read.

I have to admit I could have tried more unusual things or put more effort in what I did, but overall I’m glad I tried what I tried. It was a good experience to challenge myself, make me accountable for trying new things, and to reflect on my experiences.

My favorite part of this experience was hearing the feedback. I know not everyone read my columns or liked what I wrote, but the people that did, thank you! Girls would tell me that that’s what they liked to read and it was very flattering. (Except I was sometimes embarrassed by the cheesiness and hoped no one would read it). Nevertheless, I’m glad people enjoyed hearing about my attempts at trying new things.

I hope my readers found my experiences relatable and humorous. Some months my attempts flat-out failed, others were a major struggle or an easy success. Perhaps you tried what I was trying after hearing about my attempt. No matter the outcome of the month, I hope you found my experience as credible, entertaining, and candid.

I’m sad to part ways with this column and monthly task, but eager to continue to explore new “things”. It has been great as a senior to try new activities monthly and to be reflecting on it every month. With this being my last year at EGRHS any memories written down will be cherished later and have made senior year even more special.

These next few months are full of goodbyes and as an emotional person I need all the practice I can get. So I bid you all farewell. Goodbye to my classmates, my teachers, my peers, and my readers. I have loved creating a relationship with you all. Thank you for letting me “try something new” and encouraging me this past year.
