Boys Soccer starts the season strong

After a nerve-wracking 2016 season the Boys Soccer team is proving their desire for redemption.

This season Boys Soccer is picking up the pace with a 4-2 record. The five experienced seniors captains Aidan Benedict, Mason Brown, Connor Claus, Lucas Conrad-Loew, and Hunter French as well as coach AJ Dufendach have led the team to victories at Elk Rapids, Forest Hills Eastern, Wyoming, and Lowell.

Unfortunately, the winning streak broke this past Tuesday. The team faced rival Grand Rapids Christian on Sept. 13. Josh DeVelder ’18 scored first; GRC then scored the next two goals. Alesio Franco ’18 nearly evened the playing field with one final goal, ending the game at a close 2-3. The team has high aspirations for the remainder of the season.

“Our goal for the rest of the season is to win the rest of our games and beat Christian the next time we play them so we will be tied for conference,” Claus said.

Some players’ aims extend even further ahead in the season past conference.

“We want to win district after losing in the finals the past two years, but we also want to make it to state,” Connor Lannon ‘19 said.

Their coming games include Wayland at home on Sept. 14 and West Catholic at home on Sept. 19.
