The Canepa tennis courts were filled with West Michigan’s top tennis players this past Saturday as East Grand Rapids fought for the top place against tough competition, coming out second to FHN.

The East Grand Rapids boys tennis team is looking forward to some more exciting matches and tournaments as they head into the next few weeks before the OK Gold tournament on Oct. 7.

Even though the Pioneers did not win overall, doubles partners Ryan Post ‘20 and Preston Brader ‘18 won their flight; playing as the first doubles team. Sophomore Ben Collins ‘20 also won, being the first singles player. They both beat out the best players on FHN’s team.

Nick Lambert ‘19 said that, “Our team is really clicking and the coaches are really proud of what we have accomplished so far”. Lambert’s doubles partner Graham Gilman ‘20 believes that their best attribution to the team is, “Hard work on and off the court and the positivity of the team as a whole.”

The boys hang their heads high as they face harder teams from the East side of the state. With the leadership on and off the court, the boys can, and will, lead themselves to many more victories during the season.
