This upcoming season will be a fresh start for the varsity boys lacrosse team. The school hired Rick DeBlasio in the offseason to become the team’s new head coach. “[DeBlasio] brings a different style of coach. He always has a good plan for practice and has laid out what our goals should be for every game,” Captain Matt Solberg ‘16 said.
Luckily the team has not been faced with the challenges that often come with a new head coach. “There haven’t been a lot of significant changes because he [DeBlasio] was on the coaching staff last year. We also have a lot of the same assistant coaches,” Solberg said.
The team wastes no time once games start as they face Okemos, Ann Arbor Pioneer, and Detroit Catholic Central in three of their first four games. “It’ll be hard coming out to such a hard first few games. We should be ready for them though because our coaches have been preparing us well,” Solberg said.
The team has several goals for the duration of the season. “The main goal for this season is to accomplish our games goals, a few of them are to score around 16 goals a game and try to limit our opponents to only four goals,” Sol- berg said, “another goal of ours is to win a state championship.” After losing to Okemos in the semi-finals last year 14-10, reaching the State Champion- ship would be a great accomplishment for this year’s team.
