Boys Basketball prepares for upcoming conference games

After some tough competition these past few weeks, boys basketball matched up with Catholic Central on Tuesday, Jan. 3. At halftime, the teams were tied 25-25, but the EGR team fell short in the second half finishing with a score of 49-65.

Even though the team had a tough start this season with a record of 2-5, they’re looking to improve with the beginning of conference play this week.

“Some of the big rivalry games that are coming up for us are the Forest Hils Central and Grand Rapids Christian games,” Simon Neuhaus ‘23, one of the captains, said. “Forest Hills Central always plays hard and chippy. Grand Rapids Christian is super talented this year with a great coach. We have to prepare well for both of these teams trying to contain two high-powered offenses. This week we play Northview and Grand Rapids Christian, two of the top teams in the state, and I couldn’t be more excited to show what this team can do.”

So far, they’ve had some difficult competition. It looks as though they’re ready to turn things around after their first conference game against Greenville on Friday, Jan. 6, where they won 54-37. It was the perfect time for a win, as they will face off against two of their biggest rivals, Grand Rapids Christian and Northview, this week.

“I feel excited to go against good competition. For both games, we will have to slow the game down because their teams are full of good athletes. We will have to focus on not letting their shooters get open shots and rebounding. We will have to play our best games of the year to beat them but we are excited and ready for the challenge,” Tommy Cavanaugh ‘24 said.

Come and watch boys basketball play their second conference game at Northview on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
