The boys varsity soccer team, also known as “The Lads” are off to a bit of a shaky start, but the season is long, and they have shown flashes of good soccer in their recent gameplay.
The Pioneers are under new leadership, and may still be acclimating to those changes. There is still a question of who the right answer is in the net, and there are some lineup questions that still remain unanswered.
J.C Poortenga ‘25 has recently taken over responsibilities at goalie and thinks the team needs to stay positive.
“We need to band together to turn things around, keep our heads up, we can still turn it around,” Poortenga said.
Poortenga mentions that the new coach is loved, and places an emphasis on keeping possession of the ball in order to win games. “The Lads” have a lot to work on, but after another scoreless draw against the Lowell Red Arrows, scoring goals should be the top priority.
“We really have to start finishing shots, as it’s frustrating when we are getting the right looks, but shots just aren’t hitting the net,” striker Henry Maes ‘25 said. The Pioneers need a team morale boost, getting in the win column would definitely help with that as the Pioneers try to take control of the rest of their season.
