As this season begins, Girls Swim and Dive prepares to make their mark and bring home another state title. With dedicated coaches, Butch Briggs, Tylor Fick, and Josh Dolecki, the team has the motivation to succeed.
“They are always encouraging us to do better and to try new things,” diver Sophie Titus ‘26 said.
As a Division 3 team, the team not only has high hopes to compete at the state tournament, but to surpass their competitors. Though their continued rivalry against Jenison is not essential this year, as they are no longer in the same division, the team will compete against challenging foe Cranbrook Kingswood.
“In our division, it’ll probably be Cranbrook that is our biggest competition,” Kate Simon ‘25 said.
During practices, the team continues to work on stronger dives and perfecting their swimming relays. The team has a strong friendship and participates in many team-bonding activities. Over the summer, they went on walks and runs and even played soccer together.
“I think we have a good chance [to win states],” Simon said. “The preseason rankings came out and we were ranked first, but swimming you never know how times will go.”
Swimming is a complex sport in which many individuals experience setbacks at times. Despite this, the team has achieved many state titles over the years, and it seems this year they can be just as successful. Promising attitudes and a strong team dynamic should help set them above, and hopefully allow them to place at states.
