The Boys Tennis team has a lot to prove in this upcoming season. With the loss of 11 seniors the year prior, the pressure is on as the boys must uphold the East Tennis name.
Connor Quigg ‘27 deems this upcoming season a rebuilding one, where the boys will focus on perfecting their technique and working together as a team.
Last year, the team set the bar high by winning Regionals, as well as placing third at the Division 3 State Championship. Individual players have the chance to bring home a state title again this year, but a title for the whole team could be challenging.
“Even with the loss of so many seniors, our singles team only lost its second seed Bryce Balon, so they’re still really good. But doubles last year was made up of 7 seniors and 1 sophomore, so doubles are going to have to really put in the work,” Asher Pereira ‘26 said.
Tennis has had three matches so far this year, and a recent tournament in Sturgis, where the team placed fifth overall. Wins from the singles and doubles were highlights for the team.
“At the first match of our recent tournament our first seed, Andrew Owings sprained his ankle. So we’re all hoping that Andrew gets better soon,” Asher Pereira ‘26 said.
The team has rivals all across the board; including Forest Hills Central and Forest Hills Northern. The two teams play with friendly fire, each pushing each other to be better.
“At Conferences, we play FHN and FHC. This year unfortunately we will probably lose, but I’m still looking forward to it,” Pereira said.
The boys tennis team is still a force to be reckoned with. Looking on, the team is reaching to improve their skill and create a strong team bond.
“I hope for a regional win if we really pull through,” Mikey Beusse ‘25 said.
