The East Grand Rapids hockey team skates into the second half of its season. With 5 seniors on the team, the boys are preparing for the final rest of their time playing for the EGR hockey program.
The boys’ record so far is 10-7 and they are continuing to work harder to make that even better. After losing so many seniors last year, the boys have to step it up to fill in their shoes. This year’s captains Bryce Bjornson and Kaden Goosens, along with assistant Ethan Brinker have all been working hard to keep the boys focused and ready for each and every game.
“We treat every game the same, we just look one game at a time,” Bjornson ‘26 said, “we talk about how we have to come out harder because when we do, we have been winning, such as Caledonia and Livonia.”
The boys had a tough loss to Grand Rapids Catholic Central, but are looking forward to a chance to play them again in the playoffs. They plan to come back stronger and harder, because this is one of their bigger rivals.
Bryce Bjornson along with Trevor Bird and Ethan Brinker are currently leading the team as far as points. Bird with 21, Bjornson with 18, and Brinker with 10, overall the team is doing a great job this season. Ethan Brinker being one of the top scorers as a defender, goes to show the widespread skill this team has.
Playoffs start on February 16, so students should try their best to get out there and support the team. Student involvement and support is important and can even change the outcome of a game. For the seniors this year especially, and the rest of the team looks for their peers to come and cheer and support the hockey team.
