College decisions bring stress
The decisions for regular admissions to colleges are trickling in, and seniors are supposed to be able to take a deep breath. Instead, as they begin hearing back from places they applied, students are starting to stress about the next step.
There is only one month separating when some colleges’ regular decision admissions offices send out their acceptances, and when a student must make his/ her final decision, leaving little time for students to analyze their acceptances and rejections, and decide.
“I don’t think [it’s a sufficient amount of time] be- cause for me specifically not all the schools I applied to I visited so if I get into one of those schools then I’ll definitely want to visit them before I make my final decision,” Madalyn Osbourne ‘16 said.
Students’ busy schedules make the process even harder. “There’s Spring Break in there, and I’m also going to Washington D.C. for Weeple for five days so that only gives me two weeks to go see the schools plus a lot of them are out of state,” she said.
One way to minimize the stress would be to apply earlier to some of your top schools. “I think if you are really set on a school, early decision is definitely the way to go… That’s not binding and you can hear back earlier so it makes you decision even easier,” Tanner Hoppman ‘16 said.
Nonetheless, some students admit to procrastinat- ing a little if they know they have more time for regular decision.
“You have a little bit of time over Christmas break to work on your applications so I kind of saved some of mine, and ended up working on them during Christ- mas Eve,” Brinks said.
There has not been any talk of changing these dates for when colleges will get back to students, in fact, with applications getting better and better, it may take even longer in coming years.
