For all of those Halloween lovers out there who just don’t want the spooky season to end, the EGR drama department has a perfect way to keep the Halloween spirit alive for just a week longer. “The Legend of Spooky Hollow” debuts November 6th with following performances on the 7th and 8th. The drama department has been working meticulously to bring this play to life, and it’s bound to be an incredible show to see.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is set over three centuries ago, and that’s one of the things that makes this play so captivating.
“I think one of my favorite things about this show is the costumes. This play is set in the 1790s, and because of that, we get to wear fun historical clothing. I have also enjoyed getting to know the freshmen who are participating in high school theater for the first time in this show,” Lead Myer ‘26 said.
The play follows Ichabod Crane, played by Miles Vargis ‘28, a superstitious schoolteacher who is competing for the affection of Katrina Van Tassel, Zoe Cunningham ‘26. But he’s not the only one, Brom Bones, played by Asher Sage ‘27, is a strong and mischievous man also seeking the attention of Ms Tessel.
Apart from this love triangle, the play takes many eerie turns. After Ichabod attends a party at Katrina’s house, he encounters the Headless Horseman, a ghost of a soldier who supposedly lost his head in battle. Then the townspeople fret over where Ichabod ran off to, and if it was at the hands of the headless horseman, or Brom Bones playing a prank.
Amongst all of the raw talent in all of the members of the drama department, this play is sure to be a delight.
“I am SO excited to get onto the PAC stage with all of the set, costumes, and special effects! During every show, as soon as I step onto that stage, I know this is really happening. So, I’m really looking forward to seeing all of our hard work pay off!” Emma Kopenbyers 27, said.
The drama department’s crew is filled with hardworking and creative members, each of whom will work to perfect this play and make it one of their best ones yet.
“The atmosphere is what brings me into rehearsal every day. Even if mentally I want to go home the second we start diving into the scene, I know there’s nothing I’d rather be doing. Everyone knows how to create so many memorable moments with laughter, support, love, and character. Our director is truly putting so much effort into this show, and I hope we are making him proud,” Cunningham said.
In all, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is projected to be an amazing performance, crafted by some of EGR’s most talented students.
