The EGR boy’s tennis team is on fire so far this season. With an unbeaten 7-0 record they’re smashing their way to success and setting their sights on an incredible season ahead. The team returns almost all of their single and doubles players. Next week they come to test their skills where they will be playing some of their biggest rivals, Detroit Country Day and Cranbrook.
“I’m looking forward to the Detroit Country Day and Cranbrook matches because my partner Luke and I believe we are the best team in the state, so we need to beat the two teams ranked higher than us in order to do so,” Charlie Lentz ‘24 said.
One of the team’s strongest players, Andrew Owings ‘26, is confident that the team will make states. He says the team’s main strength comes from the seniors and the doubles courts.
“We don’t need to improve to make states. We’re making it and that’s final,” Owings said.
Their strong coaching staff is an important key to the team’s success. With Coach Mickey Mikesell’s guidance, strategy, and motivation the team is ready for this week’s tough competition.
“We have some of the best coaches in EGR Athletics with great tennis experience and advice. They are with us every match and have helped us to some key victories recently,” Lentz adds.
Owings added, “The coaches push me to be better in practice as they really force me to keep my head in the game. They really make me focus and are just great coaches.”
This team is excited for the rest of the season and would love your support at their matches.
